McMinnville, TN., May 19, 2020, Ben Lomand Connect announced today that it is featured on the popular television series, “World’s Greatest!…” which is a thirty- minute show dedicated to highlighting the world’s greatest companies, products, places, and people. Each show is a fast-paced tour around the world featuring behind the scenes footage, informative interviews, and exciting visuals.
“We are honored to be selected as one of the world’s greatest broadband providers. This is a true testament to the work that companies like us – members of the Tennessee Broadband Association and NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association are doing around the country. We come to work every day with the mission of serving the unserved or critically underserved. It truly is what we do. ” stated Lisa Cope, Ben Lomand Connect General Manager/CEO.
As part of the show, How2Media sent a film crew to spend time at the Ben Lomand’s facilities and with customers to show viewers why Ben Lomand Connect was selected as the best in their category, and therefore featured on the show.
“We love to feature companies that not only serve their communities but also make a difference in those communities. For 65 years, that has been the case with Ben Lomand Connect in Middle Tennessee. They are not some nameless, faceless company; they are the ball coaches, church members, and volunteer workers of the communities they serve. Standing in the forefront of offering their customers the latest and best in communications availability. We think their story will be meaningful as well as educational to our viewers,” said Gordon Freeman, Executive Producer of the show.

Ben Lomand Connect was incorporated on October 2, 1952, to provide local telephone service to rural middle Tennessee. Ben Lomand began its diversification in 1993 by forming BLC, a wholly-owned long-distance subsidiary, and it was the first competitive local exchange carrier in the state of Tennessee. Combined, the two have over 27,000 access lines covering 3,200 square miles of territory. Ben Lomand Connect also offers many other services, including video, security, hosted IP solutions, and managed IT services.
Ben Lomand Connect Awarded 2nd 2020 Grant for Cumberland County
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe announced Ben Lomand Connect as a recipient of a $2 million grant for underserved areas of Cumberland County. This is a matching grant with Ben Lomand contributing an additional $3.1 million for a total investment of $5.1 million for the county.
The grant area is in northwestern Cumberland County and includes 1, 501 locations (1,370 residences and 131 businesses). It covers 33.96 square miles and has a contiguous boundary with sections of main thoroughfares such as Interstate 40 and Highway 127 North located inside in the grant area. Infrastructure should be built out with customers able to sign up for service within two years of receiving the grant funds.
Cumberland County mayor, Allen Foster, states, “Cumberland County is blessed to have some good news in the middle of this pandemic. If anything, COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of broadband and the need in our community. Without quality broadband, we can’t move to telehealth, working from home, or distance learning. Ordering online and communications, in general, are more difficult.”
Mayor Foster continues, “I’m glad to see our efforts are beginning to pay off. This grant and the federal grant that was awarded a couple of months ago are hopefully just the beginning. I will keep fighting for better broadband here in Cumberland County, and I thank Ben Lomand for being a strong partner in this effort. This is a great start.”
A total of $19.7 million in broadband accessibility grants were awarded to 17 different companies that will expand service to support 31,000 unserved Tennesseans in nearly 12,700 households and businesses. The 17 grant recipients, including Ben Lomand Connect, demonstrated a high need for grant funding as well as the ability to implement and sustain the projects in the long-term with strong community support.
Lisa Cope, General Manager and CEO for Ben Lomand Connect commented, “There is a genuine need for broadband service in Cumberland County, and we are incredibly honored to be awarded the grant to help make this possible. I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone that worked so passionately during the application process. We also had several Ben Lomand retirees that believe strongly in what we are accomplishing; they worked in the area sharing information about the company with residents. But most of all, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the State of Tennessee for recognizing the value and need for the Broadband Accessibility Grant Program.”

Ben Lomand Connect takes steps to protect against COVID-19
At Ben Lomand Connect, we value the health and safety of our members, customers and employees above all else, which is why we are closely monitoring events concerning COVID-19 (coronavirus). We are fortunate that, as of yet, our area has had no reported cases of COVID-19. But it is still important for all of us to do our part to prevent the spread of the virus.
While taking protective measures may not prevent people from getting the virus, it can help reduce the number of patients our health care system must treat in a short period of time. As the graph below shows, taking measures to protect against COVID-19 can spread the number of cases across a longer period, ensuring that health care providers have the resources to help everyone who needs it.
With that in mind, Ben Lomand Connect has taken the following steps, in accordance with CDC guidelines, to protect both our employees and our members/customers:
- Ben Lomand Connect employees who feel sick are being asked to stay home.
- Employees who work directly with members/customers should avoid shaking hands or making any physical contact.
- We have provided additional disinfectant products to employees in the office and posting additional reminders for employees to wash their hands often.
- Our frontline employees are disinfecting workspace after every customer interaction and wiping down displays/hard surfaces multiple times a day.
- All employees have been asked to take proper precautions to ensure the safety of themselves and those around them.
In addition, our technicians are taking extra precautions as well when visiting your home or business in regards to installations or repair calls. They are supplied with hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, face masks and vinyl gloves. They are also being asked to limit their in-person contact with customers by practicing “social distancing”. Our adherence to these protocols will help ensure both the safety of our members/customers and employees.
Ben Lomand Connect also offers a variety of online services to help you pay your bill and conduct other utility business from home, plus our 24/7 local Network Support Center stands ready to assist you in any way. In addition, we encourage all of our members/customers to take similar steps to protect themselves and their families.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and explore further measures to support our members, customers and the community as needed. Follow us on social media for updates and visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov for more information about COVID-19.

Outage impacts Ben Lomand customers
April 12, 2019
McMINNVILLE, Tennessee — An unintended fiber connection Wednesday caused an extensive outage for Ben Lomand Connect. During efforts to add additional capacity to upgrade the area’s broadband service, data traffic was incorrectly routed around 10:30 a.m. The situation caused video and telephone service outages across Ben Lomand’s 11-county service area. Staff worked quickly to fix the problem, and the first customers regained service within two hours.
“Even though we’ve never had an outage of this magnitude, our employees train for emergency situations such as this,” said Lisa Cope, General Manager/CEO of Ben Lomand Connect. “We know our customers count on us to keep them connected, which is why our staff jumped to action to restore service. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to our customers caused by such an unprecedented event and appreciate their patience and support.”
Though all service was restored Wednesday afternoon, Ben Lomand Connect employees worked into the early morning hours Thursday troubleshooting and evaluating the network. “Our employees are the most dedicated group I’ve ever come into contact with,” said Cope. “Team members from every department worked tirelessly to resolve the issue and help customers.” Cope went on to say that Ben Lomand personnel will be reviewing protocols to continue providing the level of service that customers have come to rely on for over 65 years.
