Affordable Connectivity Program Ending

On March 4, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a public notice announcing that the last fully funded month of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is April 2024.

After the month of April, you will see an increase of $30.00 to the broadband portion of your bill due to this lack of federal funding.

Customers may change or discontinue service at the end of the ACP.

If you have any questions, please call your local Ben Lomand Connect office for more details.

Yes, fax machines and analog modems operate on the same frequency as POTS (plain old telephone service), therefore you should encounter no problems using the devices with xDSL Broadband. If you are a fiber customer using FAX or an analog modem, special profiles may be required.

Broadband service delivered over copper-based technologies (xDSL) requires a compatible modem or router. Fiber service is delivered on Category 5 compatible Ethernet port and requires a standard Ethernet router.

Email Migration FAQ

The old Communigate platform that blomand.net addresses resides on is being decommissioned.

10 gigs of email storage along with a grace period in which to restore mail that is accidentally deleted.

Accounts are ready to use almost immediately but mail stored on the server and contacts stored on the server take from 12 to 24 hours depending on volume to move into the new benlomand.net account.

Yes–the server platform will not be there after the end of 2021.

A responder may be put on the account that notifies each person who sends to the old address the first time of the new address. If you use webmail each message contains a line at the top that tells you if it was sent to the old address or to the new one. You can tell who is still sending to the old address and notify them.

Your old mail is moved so any email you have stored on the server is moved to the new account. The old mailbox forwards automatically to the new benlomand.net account. There is no need to access the old account directly.

The migration CAN NOT touch mail that is stored on a computer or other device but any mail and contacts kept on the mail server are automatically moved to the new account.

As of right now there has been no time-limit set, but this service will be stopped at some point in the future and we will make people aware when that happens.

Spyware/Adware and Virus Scanning

Adware

Adware is any software application in which advertising banners are displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen. The justification for adware is that it helps recover programming development cost and helps to hold down the cost for the user.

Spyware

Spyware is any technology that aids in gathering information about a person or organization without their knowledge. On the Internet (where it is sometimes called a spybot or tracking software), spyware is programming that is put in someone’s computer to secretly gather information about the user and relay it to advertisers or other interested parties. Spyware can get in a computer as a software virus or as a result of installing a new program.
